February Report Card

Total hands: 21,900
Limit: 4.57 BB/100 over 18,900 hands:
NL: 3,000 hands: + $2,370

Glad that I managed 20,000+ hands this month, which has become my de facto goal for number of hands / month. Also ran pretty well happy to say.

Just this quick report post for now, since I'm packing to head to Florida for a little R&R, but more importantly the Party Million limit tournament cruise. One of my big poker goals from last year was to participate in a $10,000 buy-in tournament, so I guess this is it! Sure, I guess I wish it were the WSOP ME, but I probably have much more EV in this one given the quality of my limit game right now. I'll hopefully be posting daily reports while I'm on the cruise.

I am interested in your first thoughts as to the effect of recent changes of Party Poker software on your performance. I made some crude calculations (from performance graph you provided) – assuming equal number of hands played/day, the period 18th February – 28th February corresponds to hands between around 14000 to the end. With 280 BB in this period I get your winrate at 3.5 BB/100 hands, which is lower than the whole month figure, but still pretty high.
Statistically, these 8000 hands is not near convergence limit but by my experience still high enough for a first-order approximation of winrate.
So, I would be very interested to hear your first thoughts on the impact of PP changes.

First of all, I should note that 80% of my hands from last month came BEFORE the changes. Only around 3,000 came afterward, because of some schoolwork I needed to take care of...for whatever it's worth, I was just a little under 3BB / 100 for those 3,000 hands after the changes, although that's way too few hands to draw any conclusions.

My preliminary thoughts: haven't noticed much of a change really. Mr. PAHUD just released a version that works on observed tables, which is really nice to have again, even though it's just a tad buggier than the previous version. While certain people have come out with grey-market dataminers, I haven't toyed around with those yet because a) I have a huge DB of stats already built up, and b) I want to see Party's preliminary reaction to them: e.g. are they going to get the users in trouble? All told, I simply don't need all that much mined data right now.

I still vastly preferred the old software to the new, since I had really just started to hit my stride being able to successfully play 6 to 8 SH games at once...but hopefully I'll get used to this new stuff too.

Don't know about the rest of you but a climbing red line on a chart rivals the Mona Lisa.

Curious what software you use to produce your graphs or if they're just Excel.

Hi. First of all just wanted to say I really enjoy your blog. Also, i read it from the start and you say in your first post that you have already have 11k worth of online poker profits before u started blogging. Did you do this by grinding out the micro limits?

First of all, sorry for the hiatus in posts, I've been on vacation - writing an entry now though.

To answer your Q, yeah, i think I already had like 8 to 10 thousand in poker winnings since I started playing in May of that year. Funny thing is: i never played the microlimits. I just jumped right into the 2/4 and 3/6 games (because that's where I typically played live). I had absolutely no sense of bankroll management, and was WAAAAAY underrolled for those stakes at the time, but I guess that goes back to one of the things I wrote in a different post (I think): I simply didn't know what wasn't supposed to be possible, which is one of the things I guess that has allowed me to make significantt progress at a rather quick pace.
